A Thanksgiving Opportunity for Public Art

This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (as long as it doesn’t get cancelled due to anticipated strong winds) will feature the work of a contemporary Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. The piece is called “Love Flies Up to the Sky” and is unique in its historical and cultural style. I think it’s really cool that this balloon display may encourage viewers to do something other than buy a product or reminisce on a favorite cartoon character. Instead, they may decide to learn more about Kusama and perhaps even visit his art exhibition in New York.
