As many of us rush to the cinema for Frozen 2, I want to look more closely as the animation work that has gone behind the production. The animators modified and refined the hairstyles from the first movie – using a technique called the “rollercoaster test”, animators put characters through a rollercoaster and fix any gaps in their hairstyles. Another noteworthy effect are the magical elements in the landscape. The producer toured Iceland, Norway , Finland for inspirations to create locations like the mountaineous terrains and ice fields. My favourite part is the team creating the wind as a character: in the past, wind was a feature created by the visual effect (vfx) department; for Frozen 2, the technology team developed it to be a character that curved and interacted with other characters in real-time.
