As both a Radiohead and Blue Planet fan, this video immediately caught my eye. It discusses how Bloom from The King of Limbs was deconstructed and re-orchestrated in order to fit into a soundtrack for the documentary series. They used a technique they refer to as the “Tidal Orchestra”, which is inspired by Pointilism, the artistic movement that I discussed in my last blog post. This effect is created by instructing an orchestra to only play their given note if the person next to them is not playing. This creates a massive wall of sound with instruments weaving in and out throughout the piece.
