Can public art inspire productive political conversations?

Artists including Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman are using art in place of advertisements to initiate political conversations and inspire civic engagement. Their display of political artwork in public spaces, such as billboards, seems like a reversal of the “advertorial” phenomenon that we discussed in class. These artists work with intentions of making discussion of art and politics more accessible.
