One of my favorite ballets is currently being performed in New York City Ballet’s fall season. Jewels is a three-act ballet choreographed by George Balanchine in 1967. The ballet consists of three movements: Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds. It is considered to be the first full-length abstract ballet, and I felt that the abstract quality of this moving, colorful piece creates a perfect avenue to Project 1.3.
