These objects are part of Do Ho Suh’s “Almost Home” installation at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Through her intricately sewn fabric recreations of her previous homes and the objects that made up her homes, Suh creates an ethereal, almost otherworldly perspective on the idea of home. The use of colorful, almost transparent fabric implies the notion that home presents itself physically (in the spaces it occupies) and mentally (in the minds of those who inhabit it). The objects reminded me of what we’re tasked with in Project 1.2, in that Suh is able to create these 3-D representations of objects in a medium that differs from that of the original object.
